Centre stones · cut to order

Diamonds for engagement rings, cut on our own bench.

The diamond is the heart of an engagement ring, and where it comes from decides what you pay for it. We cut engagement centre stones in Bedfordview to GIA Excellent standard. Here is what matters in an engagement diamond, and why buying close to the cutter changes the value equation.

What to look for in an engagement diamond

Cut comes first. It is the C that decides whether a diamond is bright and lively or flat, and it matters more to the eye than a small difference in the other grades. After cut, look for a GIA certificate you can verify by report number, a clarity that is eye-clean rather than flawless on paper, and a colour grade that suits the metal of the setting. A well-made, certified stone beats a larger, duller one.

Why buying close to the cutter matters

A retail engagement ring carries the diamond plus the shop around it: rent, brand, and stock financing. None of that improves the stone. When the centre stone is cut by the works supplying it, more of the budget lands in the diamond and less in the layers on top. That is the difference between paying mall margin and paying close to the trade for the same certified stone.

Cut to order, to a real standard

We cut centre stones to specification on our bench, to GIA Excellent and AGS Ideal standard, across the shapes engagement buyers ask for: round brilliant, oval, cushion, emerald, and the rest. Where a buyer or designer wants a particular combination of shape, carat, colour, and clarity, we cut or source it against forward parcels rather than settling for the nearest stone in a tray. See our bespoke cutting and loose certified diamonds for detail.

Buying a finished ring

Procut DCW is the cutting works. Trade buyers source loose centre stones directly from us. If you want a finished engagement ring, with the setting made, the stone secured, and full retail service, our sister brand Prodiam handles the consumer side, with the same bench behind every stone. For the background on buying close to source, see buying direct from the cutting works.

Common questions

Where do engagement ring diamonds come from in South Africa?
Most retail stones are imported polished. A smaller number are cut domestically by licensed beneficiators like Procut DCW, which cuts centre stones in Bedfordview and supplies the trade and, through Prodiam, retail buyers.
What should I look for in an engagement ring diamond?
Cut first, because it drives how the stone looks, then a verifiable GIA certificate, an eye-clean clarity, and a colour that suits the metal. A well-cut certified stone bought close to source is best value.
Can I buy an engagement ring diamond direct from the cutter?
Yes. We cut centre stones to order. Trade buyers source directly; for a finished ring with setting and service, our sister brand Prodiam handles the retail side.
